From time immemorial, women have aided and comforted one another through the transition known as birth.  In working with a doula, as you bring your baby into the world, you are carrying on this age-old tradition.  Preparing you for the upcoming birth through education, lending an ear to your concerns during your pregnancy, providing you with comfort, encouragement, and safety while you labor, and following up with help and advice once baby arrives, are all hallmarks of the doula's care.  These basic skills, passed down through the ages, have been adapted to create a safe, supported passage from pregnancy to motherhood in our day and time.

Perhaps the tribal villages of our ancestors are gone, but the services that a doula provides recreate the intimacy and support our grandmothers received.
